    Pushchairs | Strollers FAQs

Most strollers offer a bassinet or lie-flat mode which allows you to use with your newborn, right from day one. These strollers can interchange on the chassis to accomodate a bassinet, carrycot or newborn cocoon to make your newborn more secure with a firm yet flat surface. Other stroller model, commonly travel strollers feature seat units only making them suitable for little ones who have some neck control or can sit unsupported, which usually happens around 6 months old.

A stroller is a type of pushchair that is much lighter and is easier to fold. Strollers are perfect for parents living in urban areas and need convenience for city living. Strollers are great for families who spend the majority of time outdoors but need a pushchair that is easy to transport and compact enough to store. Strollers are often purchased for little ones over the age of 6 months and can also be used throughout their toddler years too.

The age where you will need to stop using you stroller will depend on the brand and model. While there isn't a set age where little ones can use a stroller until, little ones tend to transition out of strollers around 4 years old.

There has been significant interest in lightweight strollers over the past few years. A lightweight stroller, which provides an easy-to-use solution for everyday usage with older babies and toddlers who have outgrown their pushchair/carrycot, was formerly often a secondary purchase following a newborn pushchair or travel system. However, there are now a lot of fantastic lightweight models that can be used from birth, giving parents the choice to choose a lightweight model from the beginning. Most strollers do not weigh more than 7kg with the seat attached, and they are typically lightweight and fold small for storage, whether it be in your home, or on public transportation.

Travel systems consist of a pushchair frame that can interchange attachments to suit your baby's stage. The attachments usually include a seat unit, carrycot or bassinet and car seat (as well as adapters). This provides a lot of advantages over a standard stroller, such as being able to leave your little one asleep in their car seat or carrycot when on the move and without having to disturb them.

You will need to make sure your car seat is compatible with your pushchair and visa versa, sometimes you may need car seat adapters. Do note that not all infant car seats fit on every pushchair. If you intend to use a car seat with your pushchair, always do your research to check compatibility or buy a travel system already bundled together. Remember, it is not recommended to keep a baby in the car seat for prolonged periods of time.

This one is really one for your little one to decide. It may be good to test out both to see which one your child prefers. Parent facing can help develop a bond as they can see you and you can see them, but forward-facing let's your child see the world around them and can keep them entertained. Luckily, you rarely have to choose between them these days as most pushchairs have reversable seat units so you can do a mix of both.

All prams and pushchairs should have a safety label to show that they comply with the relevant British Standards of safety requirements and test methods for wheeled child conveyances - BS EN 1888: 2012 or BS EN 1888: 2003. Every pushchair we stock meets these standards.

This totally depends on you and what your budget allows. The market is extremely varied and has lots of options for any type of budget. Prices vary from anything around £300 to over £1,500. But the most important thing is to think about your lifestyle, what you are going to use the pushchair for and your families needs to find the perfect one for you that is worth the money you are spending.

These terms do get interchanged a lot and can be a little confusing. Generally, a pram has a fixed parent facing carrycot and is designed for newborns up to around six months old. For this reason, prams don't offer much versatility or longevity. Whereas pushchairs are adaptable and can accommodate newborns and older infants often having carrycot and seat unit options. These give parents the full solution and can be used for many years. A stroller tends to refer to the lightweight and compact frames designed for travelling.

At around 6 months old. Signs to look out for include, when your baby can sit up unaided, when they are able to control their head/neck movements and can fit comfortably within the seat unit safety harness.

First time heading abroad as a family? It may seem stressful but it doesn’t have to be! Many of our compact travel pushchairs can be used as cabin luggage on board a plane to help you travel with ease but make sure to check with your airline before travelling. If you don’t have a cabin-sized approved stroller you can also use your pram until you get to the steps of the aircraft, just make sure to tag it when checking in.

The carrycot is designed to support your newborn when they don’t yet have the muscles to support themselves. Most babies move to the seat stage at around six months of age, when they can sit upright unaided.
