    Moses Baskets | Cribs FAQs

Moses baskets are versatile sleep spaces, ideal for babies from birth up to 3-6 months or until they can sit or pull themselves up on their own. Depending on the model, typically moses baskets have a recommended weight limit of 9kg or less, as soon as your child gets heavier then you should move them into a cot.

To ensure your Moses basket is safe, make sure it has a firm, entirely flat, and waterproof base, with no soft or cushioned areas, particularly around baby’s head. Soft mattresses are known to increase the risk of SIDS as they make it harder for babies to lose body heat, which can cause them to overheat. The surface of the mattress should be firm enough that when your baby is placed on it, their head does not sink in more than a few millimetres. You can test the firmness of a mattress using the “safe hand test”. To do this, press your hand down on the mattress and when you lift your hand up if your handprint is there the surface is not a safe sleeping surface for a baby or toddler.

There are a variety of baby cribs on the market, all of which have various functions and features that ensure they're better suited to parents and little one's needs. A crib is smaller than a cot but bigger than a Moses basket, so is considered a good in-between option for many parents-to-be. A few popular choices we love include the HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper, The Little Green Sheep Organic Knitted Moses Basket, SnuzPod4 and SnuzBaskit.

The key differences between a Moses basket and a crib is a Moses basket has a solid body but cribs typically have bars, fabric or slats that allow you to easily check on your baby during the night. Unlike a Moses basket, cribs are larger and can be used for a longer period of time. They also provide a sense of spaciousness and security for your little one.

Yes,For the first six months, it's best to keep your baby close by and sleeping in a cot, crib, or Moses basket next to your bed. This allows you to quickly attend to your little one for feeding or cuddles. The added bonus of a Moses basket is that it's lightweight and portable, making it an ideal choice for room-to-room sleeping.
