Toddler Car Seats
UK car seat laws state that little ones who are three years old and above, or up to 135cm tall, must sit in the back in a car seat or booster seat wearing an adult seat belt. Children aged 12 years and over or who are taller than 135cm may sit in the front seat wearing an adult seat belt.
Children of all ages should not be in a car seat for more than two hours at a time, whether they are newborn, four years old and over. It's important to take regular breaks on longer journeys to allow your children to stretch their joints. It's also important for parents to take breaks from driving to avoid becoming overtired or losing focus.
If your little rascal has figured out how to undo the buckle on their toddler car seat, there are a few tips and tricks you can try to stop this behaviour. After you've tried speaking to them and asking them not to, you can try putting an unbuttoned button up shirt over their normal top, then buckle the car seat underneath the shirt to block their access to the buckle. There are also buckle covers and anti-escape products you can buy if you're looking for a more permanent solution.
We recommend that babies travel in a rear-facing car seat until they are at least four years old, as they are five times safer than if they were forward facing. Some brands even recommend that little ones rear-face as long as possible, up until they are as old as seven.
