If you haven't opted for a multi-stage car seat you may find yourself going through at least a couple of car seats as your little one grows. Sadly, out of the estimated 250,000 child car seats that reach their life cycle each year, many find their way into landfill as they are generally too difficult to take apart and recycle.
To tackle this issue many experts have suggested car seat retailers should offer trade-in incentives... and Silver Cross have delivered!
As part of its ongoing efforts to become even more sustainable, Silver Cross is the first and only brand to offer its customers a car seat recycling service, which will launch this Recycle Week. Read on to find out how you can recycle your car seat with the Silver Cross recycling service...
Passing it on
You may be thinking - well why can't I pass this on to a friend or sell to someone in need?
Unfortunately it's not that simple as parents are urged against buying used car seats. This is primarily because the safety and quality of the seat could be compromised and without knowing the car seats full history, you may never know if the seat is damaged or has been in an accident.
Solving the problem
In the UK, the government introduced Environment Bill to prevent plastic pollution and reduce waste, ensuring products are manufactured in a way that their parts can be safely re-used or recycled.
This is why for a long time the mass disposal of car seats has been frustrating for councils and parents who want to recycle car seats responsibly. Now Silver Cross has made this possible for their customers.
How it works
From September 23, Silver Cross customers who no longer need their car seat can book a collection for it to be recycled free of charge.
At the recycling plant, the team use specialist lasers to separate the recyclable materials, which can then be used in the production of other products and packaging across a variety of industries - with absolutely nothing going to landfill.
More from Silver Cross
In addition, Silver Cross has expanded its valet & donation scheme to include its sister brand Micralite.
Customers can send in their used Silver Cross or Micralite pram or pushchair for a complete road test and premium valet. It is then returned like new so parents can keep using it or pass it on, knowing it is safe and looking its best.
Customers who don’t intend to reuse or resell their pram have the option to donate it to a family in need. Those who choose this option can return their pram free of charge for a full valet and service, before it’s donated to Silver Cross and Micralite’s partner charity, Baby Basics UK.
Testimonials
"As a brand, we’re making a conscious effort to become even more sustainable through our products, packaging and recycling processes. We’re incredibly proud to offer the first and only car seat recycling scheme, which will reduce waste and allow materials to be re-used."

Why we love
Silver Cross continue to make fantastic progress in their efforts in becoming a sustainable brand leader. Their innovative and thoughtfully designed car seat collection has been a family favourite for many parents over the years.
Most recently the Silver Cross Motion All Size 360 car seat is the first R129 approved 360 rotating, all stages car seat on the market. Suitable to use from birth to 12 years, the Motion All Size 360 adapts as your child grows with easy to remove inserts and stow-away harness. This fantastic multi-seat option negates the need for purchasing multiple car seats and without missing out on all the benefits of a rotating/Isofix car seat. Plus, with only one car seat needed throughout your little one's lifetime, that's a lot less waste to potentially make it into landfill.
