Mother's Day is almost with us, this year taking place on Sunday 10th March. The classic UK weather combined with the ongoing cost-of-living crisis may compel you and the family to stay home this year. But there's really nothing better than a cosy day at home with those you love, to celebrate how incredible our mums are, or how far you've come as a mum/mum-to-be.

To help you make the most of Mother's Day, we've brought together some of our favourite ideas for the perfect day at home. Whether your looking for pure indulgence, or hoping to cut back on costs, we believe that all mums should be spoiled and celebrated, after all, where would we be without them?

Keep reading for inspiration on how to enjoy Mother’s Day at home.

Indoor picnic

An expensive dinner out may not be on the cards this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t order a slap up meal in your own home. We love the idea of a fun indoor picnic with the whole family to help celebrate Mother’s Day. Simply lay out a blanket and some cushions on the floor, bring in all your favourite snacks and nibbles and dig in! The kids will love it and it can be fun for the whole family.

Make mother’s day cards

No Mother’s Day is complete without a card, and it doesn’t get better than a home made one from the heart. Get crafty with your little ones and encourage them to make their own Mother’s Day card. This will create a fun activity for an afternoon that your little one will love, and the end result will be a beautiful personal card for the mum/mum-to-be in your life.

Have a garden sports day

We know the British weather can be a little unpredictable, but if we are lucky and mother nature is on our side, then a garden sports day could be the best idea! Get those rusty tennis rackets out, or that cricket bat that is only gathering dust and let your competitive side out. If you don’t have sports equipment go old school by hosting an egg and spoon race or family tag team obstacle course around the garden, and we couldn’t forget the good old fashioned favourite; the three-legged race. The loser has to spoil mum for the rest of the day, we take our payment in chocolate!

Movie night

Your kids can make mum extra happy by putting on her favourite movie or a classic rom-com for a family film fest. Make it special and fun for the little ones by setting up a den or your own mini cinema at home. Snuggle down in your den as a family and get ready to enjoy the ultimate family film date.

If you're looking for some serious brownie points, make the home movie night into the world premiere of all your homemade family videos. Spend the day strolling down memory lane with your family, showing all those special moments and memories from over the years on the big screen for everyone to reminisce over. Wedding videos, baby videos, holiday videos and everything in between. We can guarantee every mum will love this idea and will help create even more special memories.

At home pamper day

Ok we admit, we may have added this one in the hope our families pick this for us, but we deserve to be spoilt… honestly! What better way to show the mum’s in your life that you love them and to say thank you for all their hard work than with an at home pamper day. Your children will love getting involved to make mum feel as special as possible. We’re talking bubble bath, cups of tea on tap, at home face masks with cucumbers for our tired eyes and possibly a little hand massage if you’re lucky. Go that little bit further and spoil her with breakfast in bed with the little ones.

We are all feeling the crunch right now, costs are going up all the time, and this time of year always feels like the greyest, longest wait for spring. That's why it's more important than ever to share the love and make memories as a family, and what better reason than Mother’s Day! We hope this has inspired you and your family to make the most of a cosy, quiet day at home, remembering how lucky you are to have each other.
