Christmas is just around the corner and part of the fun in the run up to Christmas is getting into the Christmas spirit and embracing the magic of the festive season. There is nothing as special as starting the Christmas cheer early and getting your little ones excited about Santa’s arrival and Christmas celebrations.
A trend that is quickly becoming a Christmas tradition in most households is the famous Elf on the Shelf. Over the years Elf of the Shelf has become a viral phenomenon adopted by so many families to help get into the Christmas spirit and encourage little ones to be on their best behaviour in the run up to Christmas. But what exactly is Elf of the Shelf and where did he come from?
What is Elf on the Shelf?
Elf on the Shelf all started from the mission to help Santa write his naughty and nice list to decide which children will get their Christmas wishes. Santa is very busy this time of year making sure every gift is just right and preparing his sleigh for his big journey, so he has enlisted a little help from his trusted elves to help him compile his naughty or nice list.
Santa sends a Scout Elf to each family home to keep a watchful eye over little ones for the days over festive period, then each night Scout Elf returns to the North Pole to report on whether the children have been naughty or nice that day. Scout Elf then returns the next day in a new position waiting to be spotted by your little ones in an exciting game of hide and seek!
The Elf on the Shelf is a fun Christmas tradition for the whole family to get involved with, plus it encourages your little ones to be on their best behaviour for Santa! Parents can get involved and get as creative as you wish with the hide and seek element of the Christmas tradition.
Now comes the fun part for you! In our opinion, the best bit about Elf on the Shelf as a parent is seeing our children excitedly hunting around the house for their festive friend. Simply moving the elf around each night provides a fun searching game for your little one that they’ll love. Watch them jump out of bed in the morning as they rush to try and find where their friend moved to!
Once they are tucked up in bed at night, it’s your time to have a little creative fun. There are so many hilarious and creative examples online of parents who have really got into the Elf on the Shelf spirit with imaginative hiding spots for Elf. You can give your little Elf a great little personality by posing the Elf in positions that show he got up to some mischief in the night. Perhaps they’ll have gotten themselves tangled up in the tinsel on the tree, or been rummaging in the biscuit tin. The funnier the hiding place the more fun the whole family will have hunting for it the next day.
