Plan Toys
Plan Toys are the leaders in sustainable play. They make all of their wooden toys from trees that no longer produce latex. They use every part of the tree, using the trunk to make their toys and surplus sawdust and branches from the trees for their PlanWood Toys. They don’t just stop there, any surplus wood pieces from their products are also used to generate power and electricity for the whole factory. But they also want to give back to their local community, so they also direct some of the biomass power from their factory to power the local villages around the Plan Toys factory.
Plan Toys recently introduced their Wonky Fruit & Veg set which has set a new standard for sustainable toys, this is the ultimate gift that gives back. Plan Toys partnered with Kromkommer, a dutch social enterprise, to help educate families and children about the high levels of food waste generated around the world. In fact, 1.3 billion tons of food waster is thrown away each year, with most of it being rejected because people dislike it’s appearance. Plan Toys wanted to help educate and influence young people’s view on “wonky” fruit and veg by producing a wooden toy.
Along with the aim to make more people aware of the food waste situation, they also give back. For every Wonky Fruit & Veg Set purchased £1 is donated to Kromkommer to help support their activities around food waste.
Fabelab
Fabelab are our favourites for fun and functional home textiles and accessories for children. All Fabelab products encourage play, stimulates the senses and inspire children’s natural imagination. Their products are made from high-quality, natural materials with a very Scandinavian design feel to them, to the delight every parents and little ones. But that’s not the only reason why we love Fableab, we also love their sustainable efforts.
Fabelab believe that how their products are bought to life is equally as important as the design. From the beginning the founder of Fabelab, Michaela Weisskirchner-Barfod, has made an effort to keep an honest and sustainable approach to the design and production of the Fabelab collections. For Fabelab, sustainable design is about using the right materials, ensuring proper treatment of workers, as well as the lifespan of the product, which is why they produce multi-functional timeless products that grow with the child.
So, when you buy anything from these amazing brands this Christmas, you are also giving the gift of supporting some amazing causes and initiatives around the world. We believe there is no better gift than the gift of giving back!
