Babywearing is a tried and tested parenting method that has been around for generations. Long before pushchairs were invented, women were carrying their babies using makeshift baby carriers to make life a little bit easier once baby arrives.
Today, the carriers look a lot different, yet the benefits remain. Aside from bonding with your baby, there are plenty of reasons to try babywearing which is why BabyBjörn are celebrating International Babywearing Week with a new video, Our Reason to Carry. Our Reason to Carry is an emotional, brand-building spotlight, highlighting BabyBjörn's beautiful baby carriers and the importance of closeness between you and your little one.
Why we carry
At Natural Baby Shower we champion all things natural and organic which is why we love the traditional method of babywearing that provides a wealth of benefits for both you and your baby. Some of our favourite reasons as to why we love babywearing include;
Before they’re born, all that babies have ever known is being in their mum’s belly, they are used to hearing their heartbeat and voice which makes them feel safe and warm. The world is a big scary place for your little one and coming into it is a huge change from their previous cosy and safe environment.
When you pick up your baby, whether in your arms or hold them close in a carrier, you're bringing them to your body and exchanging warmth and touch well as responding to their needs. Research also shows babies that are carried tend to cry less, as a result of having reduced reflux and colic. Additionally if you are breastfeeding your baby, carrying them can help to stimulate milk production.
Plus having your hands free is amazing! You know your baby is safe and secure and you can go to the toilet, make tea, have lunch, take a walk and simply get on with your day!

BabyBjörn's carrier spotlight
Baby Carrier Harmony can be used from birth and up to approximately the age of three. No insert is needed; simply adjust the settings to the growing baby. The head support is flexible and holds the baby’s head in a good position from birth and all the way to the toddler years.
An ergonomic and pressure-relieving waist belt, padded lumbar support for back relief, and wide padded shoulder straps offer comfort for the parent, even during long periods of babywearing. The carrier can be adjusted to different body types, ensuring comfort for all parents.
Baby Carrier Move is designed for parents with an active, social lifestyle who want to take their baby with them from day one. The baby carrier has built-in back support and a waist belt that distributes weight away from the shoulders, as young babies grow heavier surprisingly quickly!
The baby carrier’s thin and flexible 3D mesh fabric ensures that a new-born baby is sitting in a perfect position and the size of the baby carrier can be adjusted as the baby grows. The soft fabric hugs the baby’s back, legs and hips, and provides good support.

You can feel your baby is being carried in a natural position, with their back in a gentle c-curve. The entire front section of the carrier opens for you to put down your sleeping baby, and there is no fabric between the baby and your chest, so ideal for skin-to-skin contact too
From the pregnancy test until we’re 9 months in, we carry. During those very first life-changing hours at the hospital, we carry. We pick up our babies when they cry, we hold them close, and we comfort them. We carry them through sleepless nights, singing quietly. We carry them on our way home from the playground, on a rainy day. We carry our children to give them all the closeness they need. All the closeness we need. They are safe in our arms when the fever hits, when things are unfamiliar or when a favourite toy has gone missing. We carry our children, like we have always carried our children. And we always will.
