We received the Owlet Smart Sock from Natural Baby Shower when my little girl was 6 weeks old, I had been contemplating getting the sock all the way throughout my pregnancy but I won’t lie, the price kept putting me off, thoughts of - is it a waste of money? Surely I’ll know if my baby is okay during the night? Is it just a expensive gimmick? These questions kept entering my head and it put me off buying it.
If you’re a first time mum like me, one thing that no one warns you about is how loud babies sleep in those first few weeks! Grunting, snuffling, snoring - this had my partner and I constantly googling and questioning is she okay, is this normal?
Then you get used to those sounds and if you’re lucky enough to have a baby that then begins to sleep long stretches and quiets down at night, you’ll then find yourself staring at them in the dark trying to figure out if you can see them breathing - they’re very quiet they’ve slept for 3 hours, are they okay? When you should be enjoying those longer stretches of sleep yourself you’re then losing more sleep because you’re worried about your precious baby!
Then the Owlet Smart Sock arrived and I was so excited to try it! Setting it up was pretty straight forward, just follow the instructions on the app, it only takes a few minutes and then you’re ready to go!
I started using it during the day, I found the battery drained very quickly - quicker than it said the battery life was - but in the guides it does comment that the battery can drain quicker in light environments. I haven’t had any issues with the battery at night (and it does recharge very quickly) and if like me you take your baby into another room to do the night feeds sometimes the base unit can lose signal and set off a melody (much to the annoyance of my partner sleeping soundly in bed) to rectify this you can just pause the base when you leave the room - just remember to put it back on when you return! Or move the base as close as possible to the room you’re feeding in.
On the bright side, when I put it back on charge to use that night, and what a great night we had, I no longer felt the need to stare at her breathing, I just had a quick glance across to the base unit to see the green glow and know that everything was all okay! I can honestly say I have slept better in the weeks that we have had the Owlet. It’s good to have that reassurance that something is constantly monitoring your little one whilst you’re both resting. It’s been particularly reassuring this last week when we became a covid household; to be able to check her oxygen levels was invaluable, it took some of that worry away.
If you can, I would 100% say to invest in the Owlet Smart Sock. Yes it is expensive but can you put a price on restful sleep if you’re anxious?

As a first time mum, I must have looked at every product available for safe sleeping. I know my partner and I had looked at the Owlet Smart Sock but weren’t sure if it was worth the money, nearing 300 pounds seemed steep when we had so much to buy already. Imagine how excited I was when the Natural Baby Shower got in touch to say I’d won the Smart Sock V3 and all I needed to do was test it out and write a review, it’s safe to say I don’t think I’ve ever responded to an Instagram message so quickly!
So after arriving in the post, I was buzzing to give it a go. Set up was easy- download the app, follow the instructions - it all seemed good. A minor set back was when the device wouldn’t register to the base but a quick message on the app support and everything was up and running within 10 minutes.
Now the task of getting the sock on. I found this a bit fiddly especially with a wriggling foot but watched a video on the website which showed a step by step guide as to how to get it on correctly.
So how does he get on with having the sock on? My little one doesn’t seem bothered by having the sock on which shows how lightweight and comfortable it is.
The app shows you his heart rate and oxygen levels, luckily everything has been normal when he has worn it but should anything change I feel a bit more confident knowing that he’s wearing the sock and we’d be alerted straight away.
There are so many pros when it comes to this product, I love the cute colourway (I chose mint), I also love that it's lightweight, easy-to-use and with excellent battery life. Plus, with full-charging base station (that includes both USB and plug!) and excellent customer support, all boxes are ticked when it comes to user experience.
My only cons would be that it comes at a higher price point and I found the sock a little fiddly before watching a demo video. But as a first timer, it became easier the more I used it so I would definitely recommend it! It is pricey but for ease of use and peace of mind (especially for us first time mums that worry about everything) I would definitely buy. I feel like I sleep that little bit better knowing he’s wearing it.

I was very lucky to be chosen to review the Owlet Smart Sock! Upon first looks, the packaging is stylish and cute with a little cardboard baby foot inside to show you how it fits.
The socks themselves are a beautiful colour (I went for Deep Sea Green). They are a comfy, stretchy fabric perfect for little ones skin. You can tell the product is of high quality as putting it on is fairly easy and it looks comfy on my baby - he didn't complain so that's a good start!
Instructions are intuitive and fairly simple as I was a little scared of setting up something so technical. However, there were some issues setting it up where at points the app was telling me the sock was not pairing with the base - I kept trying but it wasn't working.
Thankfully, my tech-savvy husband came and fiddled with it and managed to sort it out but if he wasn't to hand I'm not sure what I would've done.
Once on the sock surprisingly stayed put really well. I was expecting with a wriggly baby that it would shift around but I only had one issue with this. The app is very simple to use and I love that you can personalise with your baby's picture.
Overall, although this isn't an essential baby product, I think the smart sock is an amazing product for the right situation. It is very well made, stylish and different from any other product on the market. If you need to keep an eye (not literally!) on your baby while they sleep this is perfect for you.
