National Storytelling Week

This week is National Storytelling week. It is an annual event focused around increasing the public’s awareness of the value of storytelling and encouraging people to find their passion for stories again.

Storytelling is a traditional way of communication from generation to generation and a brilliant tool for education that our children can get immersed in. Being read to, or listening to a story full of fun, imagination and new learnings can reveal a whole new world to your little one. Storytelling has been proven to help children show more empathy and have better developed understanding of situations.

So never underestimate the power of that bedtime story time, or spending half an hour reading your little one their favourite book. We especially love using our favourite Tonies for storytelling.

Storytelling with Tonies

Tonies are the mastermind’s behinds the popular Toniebox, a screen free audio box. Tonies unlock an exciting new way to listen to stories and audio that encourage little one’s imagination and play away from screens.

They are the perfect storytelling companion your little one can use independently with loads of characters to choose from; Disney favourite, childhood classics, educational audio, children songs, plus creative Tonies ready for you to upload your own audio content.

“We love listening to stories. Whether one of us is reading them, making them up or we're all listening to something we've borrowed from the library, on a CD or on our Tonie box, we could consume stories all day.

This National Storytelling Week, I'm asking each of my siblings to record a story for my children which I will then upload onto our Tonie. It's not quite the same as snuggling up together and reading their favourite books, but it's the next best thing. I know how much they miss their khala's and Mamu's and how much joy they will get from listening to their voices tell them their favourite stories.”

“Our house is upside down with toys all over the place, but the winner at the moment is this music box from Tonies. Hugo is absolutely in love with it!“

"I can choose a story for the mood I want to create. Something magical or exciting for play time, something cozy and calm for some much needed down time. Or even record our own to help with home schooling.
The song tonies are great for are “wake up shake up” morning homeschooling routine. It’s great way to add some fun to our morning playtime, and burn off some energy before sitting down for some homeschooling or a zoom lesson.
We have been creating some of our homeschooling lessons by following along with the Tonies stories - the Julia Donaldson tonies work particularly well for this, they are wonderfully descriptive so are great for imaginative play and encouraging the girls in role play.
The fact that the Tonies box is so easily made portable makes it a great addition to outdoor play, and adds that extra bit of magic and fun to some of our outdoor activities. "

“Little moment of calm. Home schooling going great thanks to our multitasking Tonie box. The counting songs are still a firm favourite and such a brilliant way to learn how to count! The lullaby Tonie is now part of our bath/bed routine and we found Dexter falls asleep so much easier with the gentle songs playing quietly in the background. We have also added Peppa Pig Tonie to our growing collection and I have to say it's been a brilliant screen free alternative.”

“The Tonie Box is by far our best buy and I would say it is a must have for any story lover. Once your Tonie box is all set up ready to go you can start listening to your Tonies. The Tonie box itself is really easy to use... so easy Lily does it all by herself. She uses the ears on the top to adjust the sound and you can even bang the side to skip. We have 3 characters so far and Lily is so happy listening to these over and over again.”
