Sometimes we can feel a little guilty for always making a beeline for a TV remote or tablet to keep our little ones entertained - and we get it! It’s so convenient to pop-on their favourite show or game but occasionally, you really can’t put a price on some quality, screen-free family time.

A Tonies survey discovered that a whopping 97% of parents would like to spend more quality time with their children this year, so they’ve decided to make it happen. Make sure to dig out your dancing shoes, because there’s so much fun to be had with all the family with the Toniebox plus, enjoy an exclusive 10% off across the Tonies collection until 31st January 2022 – we like to call that a cherry on top!

How can you spend more quality family time?

Tonies teamed up with parenting expert, Sue Atkins, to share simple tips on how to make room for the family this year.  Sue suggests quality family time is about how you interact with your child, letting them lead the time you spend together, so they feel seen and heard, even by playing their favourite game or listen to their favourite Tonie.

For parents who struggle to fit this into their diary, Sue recommends implementing family time into other activities where possible, such as dinner time.  Due to many of us using screens and TV’s during ‘down-time’, Sue also suggests that replacing this with screen-free activity will create a habit for good behaviour!

Activity ideas with your Toniebox

Story time

What you’ll need:

  1. Favourite Storybook

In perfect time for storytelling week, use the Toniebox to round up the whole family and get ready to record your story with every character - reading out loud has never been so fun! Use your Creative Tonie to save your recording to listen to again and again.

Dress to impress

What you’ll need:

  1. A big bag of clothes

Choose one of your favourite musical Tonies and assemble the family into a circle. When the player stops, whoever has the bag must put one item of clothing on – the winner is the person wearing the most amount of silly clothing when the bag is empty!

Treasure Hunt

What you’ll need:

  1. A team of little explorers

If you have collected a multitude of Tonies, why not hide them around the house for your family to find? You can even use the Creative Tonies to record your own personal clues that can be used to guide one hunt to the next!

Musical Hide & Seek

What you’ll need:

  1. Blindfolds

A musical refresh of the classic game, the Tonies’ hide and seek is perfect for the explorer in your family. All you need to do is pop on your favourite Tonie, hide the Toniebox in a secret location and the seeker, seeks!  You can even make the game more challenging for bigger ones by using a stopwatch to see who can find the Toniebox in the shortest amount of time.

Let’s dance

What you’ll need:

  1. Props - (pans, pots or spoons make the perfect instruments)
  2. Glow sticks - optional!

Make way in your room/dance floor, because you’ll need lots of space for a family dance off! Divide into teams and select your props to rock out. Then, take it in turns to wow your family members, as you twirl, twist and shimmy around the room to your favourite musical Tonie.
