Family Staycation Essentials
The staycation is proving to be the saviour of our summer this year. With abroad travel still looking uncertain, many families are looking slightly closer to home to get their vacation fix this year. From Cornish cream teas to Devon coves and the Welsh wilderness, the UK is having it’s moment in the spotlight and we are totally here for it!
But changeable British weather and coastal terrain means you need more than a bikini and flip-flops to enjoy time outdoors as a family in Britain. Nevertheless, with the right kit, you’ll be set up for a day at the beach with happy children in tow. We round up the essential ingredients for a fuss-free family holiday in Great Britain.
Portable highchair

Travel cot
If your staycation accommodation doesn’t come with a cot or space for your little one to sleep then you’re going to need a travel cot. Our go to is always the Bugaboo Stardust. Pop up tent
A beach tent will be a saviour for those family days on the beach. Tonies is perfect for on the go with it’s 7 hours of battery life and ability to play stories without the need for WiFi connection. Just be aware, you will need WiFi connection when you originally set up the Toniebox and when you are using a new character for the first time so it can download it’s content properly. Other than that, there is no need for a WiFi connection to enjoy the Tonies content.
There is also a handy headphone jack so your little one can listen to their Toniebox without the rest of the car needing to listen too (yippee)!
Weather appropriate clothes
It is more than likely that the weather is going to be, well, typically British. So it’s best to be prepared and look ahead at the forecast in the area you are going to so you can make sure you have weather appropriate clothes.
For warmer weather you will need
- Sun hat
- Children sunglasses
- Beach shoes/sandals
- Swim wear
- Swim nappies
- Loose fitting cotton tops
- Shorts
For wetter weather
Sun cream
If you are lucky enough for the sun to show it’s face on your staycation then you’re going to need some sun cream suitable for children. Young skin is much more sensitive to sun damage than adult skin so make sure you are on top of the sun cream application regularly and choose a high SPF. Remember children under 6 months should be kept out of direct strong sunlight as much as possible. Shop children sun cream.
Beach toys
The beach is a world of fun and adventure for your little one, so help them make the most of it and enjoy hours of fun with a range of beach toys. We love the beach set from Liewood and Play Toys.
